Language Immersion Student Residence (LISR)
The Language Immersion Student Residence (LISR) is a unique housing program at BYU that allows students to live with others studying the same language and engage in daily immersion, without leaving campus.
In support of the Asian & Near Eastern Languages Department, houses are offered for Chinese, Japanese, and Korean. Students speak the target language in their apartment, attend weekday dinners in the language, and enroll in a related course (CHIN 311R, JAPAN 311R, or KOREA 311R) as part of the program.
Key features:
- Daily target language use in housing
- Required enrollment in 311R courses
- Weeknight language dinners (Mon–Thurs, 6:00–7:00 p.m.)
- In-apartment language facilitator
- Support from a faculty coordinator
